How I Make Extra Money With Amazon — Without Posting All Day on Social Media
Disclosure: I participate in the Amazon Influencer/Affiliate Program and may earn commissions from qualifying purchases. Earnings are never guaranteed and results will vary.
If you’ve ever heard me say that I make money making videos for Amazon and thought…Wait. What does that even mean? 😂
You’re definitely not the only one.
I get questions about this all the time, especially when I tell people that I don’t have to constantly post product links all over social media to make money from it.
And honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about what I do.
Because as a mom of five, I don’t have hours every day to sit on Instagram making reels, posting stories, answering messages and trying to convince people to buy things.
I needed something that could fit into the little pockets of time I actually have.
And somehow, this Amazon thing has become exactly that.
So…what do I actually do?
It’s really pretty simple.
I make short videos reviewing products we already own and use.
That’s it. 😂
I might show how something works, what it looks like in real life, what I like about it, how big it is, or something I think another person would want to know before buying it.
Then I upload that video to my Amazon storefront and connect it to the product.
Once you’re approved for Amazon’s onsite program, Amazon can choose to show those videos to shoppers while they’re already shopping on Amazon.
And if someone watches my content and makes a qualifying purchase, I can earn a commission.
That’s the part that completely changed the way I looked at this.
I don’t necessarily have to go find the customer. They’re already on Amazon shopping.
And no…I don’t have to post every video on social media.
This is probably the question I get asked the most.
“So do you have to post all of these videos on Instagram or TikTok?”
Nope.
Now, there’s an important distinction here: you do have to qualify for the Amazon Influencer Program to get started, and social media can be part of that approval process.
But the videos I make for Amazon don’t have to become Instagram posts or TikToks.
I can literally make a video in my house, upload it to Amazon, and move on with my day.
And as someone who has done the whole constantly-showing-up-on-social-media thing before…
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that. 😂
The funny part? I already owned SO much stuff I could review.
When I first started, I thought I’d need to go buy all kinds of products.
Then I started walking around my house.
Oh.
😂
With five kids, sports, a house, a kitchen, toys, clothes, shoes, electronics and all the random things a family of seven accumulates…we already owned a LOT of stuff that’s sold on Amazon.
So that’s where I started.
I looked around our house for things we already owned and could genuinely talk about.
The vacuum.
Kitchen stuff.
Kids’ things.
Sports gear.
Organization products.
Clothes.
Random things sitting in cabinets that I’d completely forgotten we’d bought.
Once you start looking around your house thinking, “Could I make a 60-second video about this?” you realize how many products you already have.
What do my videos look like?
Nothing fancy.
Seriously.
I’m not setting up a studio. I’m not spending an hour editing. And I’m definitely not making sure my entire house is spotless before I hit record. 😂
Usually I’m showing the product and talking through the things I would personally want to know before buying it.
Would I buy it again?
How big is it?
Does it actually work?
What do I love about it?
Is there something I wish I’d known before ordering it?
That’s really it.
I try to think less like a salesperson and more like a friend saying:
“Okay, here’s what you should know before you spend your money on this.”
And that feels very natural to me.
Does every video make money?
Absolutely not. 😂
Amazon decides where eligible content appears, so uploading a video doesn’t guarantee that it will be placed on a product page or earn commissions.
And I think this is really important to say because there’s a LOT of content online that makes every side-income opportunity sound like you’ll be making thousands of dollars by next Tuesday.
That’s not how this works.
Some of my videos do really well.
Some make a little here and there.
Some basically sit there and do nothing.
And then sometimes an older video randomly starts earning again.
There’s no guaranteed amount of money you’ll make, and there are definitely ups and downs.
But what I like is that I’m building something.
Every time I upload another useful video, I’m adding another little piece to my Amazon library.
And once that video is made, I don’t have to remake it tomorrow.
That matters to me.
Is it passive income?
Ehhh…sort of. 😂
I don’t love calling it completely passive because I definitely have to do the work upfront.
I have to find the product, make the video, upload it and continue adding new content.
But once I do that?
That video can continue working without me sitting there actively doing anything with it.
I’ve made money while we’ve been at baseball games.
While I’ve been doing laundry.
While we’ve been on vacation.
While I’ve been sleeping.
Not because I did nothing—but because I had already done the work.
And THAT is the kind of flexibility I was looking for.
Why this works for this season of my life
This is probably the biggest reason I’ve stuck with it.
I have five kids.
Our schedule is ridiculous sometimes. 😂
There are sports and school and appointments and laundry and dinner and all the regular life stuff that comes with raising a family.
I don’t want to build something that requires me to choose between being present with my family and making an income.
Amazon gives me room to work when I have time.
Some weeks I can make several videos.
Some weeks life happens and I don’t.
And the work I’ve already done doesn’t disappear just because I had a busy week.
That’s what More Flexibility means to me.
Not doing nothing.
Not getting rich overnight.
Just finding ways to make money that actually fit around the life I’m already living.
If you’re thinking, “Okay…but how do I start?”
I get this question a lot too. 😂
And I remember being at that exact point—interested, but also thinking, Okay…what do I actually DO?
So I put together a free Amazon Reviews Guide that walks through the basics and helps you understand what getting started looks like.

You don’t need to decide today that you’re starting some huge new business.
Read through it. See what you think. Look around your house and start noticing how many products you already own.
Because sometimes making a little more room in the budget doesn’t require adding another traditional job to an already-full life.
Sometimes it just means finding a different way to use the time—and the things—you already have. 🤍
